As the leading multifamily innovator and architecture firm in North America, Humphreys & Partners relies on our incredible team from around the world to create innovative, one-of-kind communities for clients. As the Design Collaboration Administrator in our Uruguay office, Guillermo Traibel improves standardization of processes and planning between production and design teams. His responsibilities keep him constantly collaborating with teammates in the Uruguay office and with HPA’s other international offices.

We sat down with Guillermo while he was in our Dallas for a week-long training program. Let’s get to know Guillermo outside (and inside) the office and see what makes him a true icon of #HumphreysHeroes culture:

  1. Where did you attend university?

I studied architecture at Universidad Ort in my hometown of Montevideo, Uruguay. Fun fact: because we are such a small country, there are only two universities in Uruguay that teach architecture.

  1. What inspires your work?

Traveling inspires my work. In my free time, I enjoy going abroad and experiencing all of the various types of architecture. Traveling is an experience – and so is architecture, so it’s great when I can combine the two. This visit to the HPA Dallas office has been incredibly informative, too! We’re here learning about designing in wood frame since Uruguay uses mostly concrete construction.

  1. What do you enjoy about working at HPA?

The Uruguay team I work with is fantastic. Our office is a very collaborative environment. The projects we work on allows us to work alongside teams in the USA and from across the world.

  1. Who is your favorite architect?

The architects I admire most are both from Japan: Kasuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa. I appreciate the austere, minimal approach they take with their work. The perception of space in Japan is unique, clean and very modern.

  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Scandinavia – for the weather, culture and architecture. It may be surprising to hear this since I’m from South America but I enjoy cold weather. Plus, regarding architecture and interior design, Scandinavians are leaders in both industries. In particular, I would like to travel to Denmark.

  1. If you weren’t doing architecture, what would you be doing?

Graphic design – I think it would be cool to design movie posters. I was able to study a bit of graphic design during my university studies and I enjoyed the creativity involved and working with design software. In my opinion Adobe Suite is pretty fun.

We hope you have enjoyed getting to know Guillermo, one of our world-class team members here at HPA! Stay tuned for more #HumphreysHeroes blog posts in the future. In the meantime, engage with us on FacebookTwitterLinkedIn and Instagram for all things HPA-related.
