As the #1-ranked multifamily architecture firm in North America, Humphreys & Partners relies on our incredible team from around the world to create innovative, one-of-a-kind communities. Gene Sapinski serves as the Director of Construction Administration. He has 19 people that work with him across offices nation-wide. Once a project is under construction, Gene integrates the CA team with the project team. His role involves fostering an environment that communicates experiences, and providing learning platforms that raise awareness in our CA work. Gene is continuously collaborating with other departments to enhance CA processes, bring benefit to our company, and create a positive experience for our clients. Gene’s passion for construction and devotion to his team are just a few of the reasons why he is our May #HumphreysHero.

Let’s get to know Gene outside (and inside) the office and see what makes him a true icon of #HumphreysHeroes culture:

  1. Where is Your Hometown

Berkeley, Illinois, 20 miles due west of Chicago.

  1. Which architect inspire you?

I like Frank Lloyd Wright. When I was younger I made a point to visit his home in Oak Park, Illinois and since then you can see some nods to him through the remodeling I do. He inspires my remodeling so much that my friends will even comment on how I go from small to big expansive areas, and reference Wright’s home.

  1. What’s the best movie you’ve seen recently?

Recently? A Star is Born – Lady Gaga did a good job in that. But if you had to ask me what is my favorite movie of all time? It would have to be Peaceful Warrior with Nick Notley. The only way to know if it’s your favorite is if you watch it once and then turn around watch it again!

  1. What’s your favorite thing about working at HPA?

The people. Everyone here is open, receptive and they communicate well. Not to mention, everyone is super personable. Good vibes all around!

  1. What are your hobbies when you’re off duty?

My kids would say that my hobby is construction; they always tell stories of going on road trips with me and I am doing double and triple takes driving by a job site. I am lucky because I am very passionate about my work, but I do have a lot of interests. I ride motorcycles, I enjoy golf, I’m even doing Bachata dance lessons. I also enjoy being a grandfather to 5 talented grandkids.

  1. If you were not in construction administration, what would you be doing?

I love what I do. I love the business. I have a passion for the work itself but I also have an enthusiasm for the work I do and the industry. What I do right now is what I fully enjoy.
