As the #1-ranked multifamily architecture firm in North America, Humphreys & Partners relies on our incredible team from around the world to create innovative, one-of-a-kind communities. As Assistant Regional Director, Greg Marinelli is responsible for maintaining client relationships and assisting Martin Koch (Regional Director) in managing the Orlando office. Let’s get to know Greg outside (and inside) the office and see what makes him a true icon of #HumphreysHeroes culture:
- What is your Alma mater?
University of Michigan class of 1992 with a Bachelors of Science in Architecture and class of 1998 with a Masters in Architecture.
- Where did you grow up?
I’m from West Bloomfield, a suburb of Detroit. Upon graduating from Michigan I moved to Portland, Oregon, because of my interest in City Planning but mostly because of the beautiful countryside there. It’s also a short drive to the ocean, mountains and high desert. Then in 2005 I moved to Chicago to be closer to family and experience a world class city.
- What inspired you to become an architect?
My family is in the construction industry and I spent the summers of my youth working on construction sites. I actually spent some time during grad school working in Georgia with my brother’s construction company. I realized pretty early on that I wanted to have more of an impact on our built environment than how neatly brick is stacked on a wall. I’m really passionate about good craftsmanship and solving problems.
- What are your hobbies outside of the office?
I became a father late in life and spending time with my family is my focus outside of the office. My girls (wife and daughter) are beach girls and we like to travel to Florida’s west coast to swim in the Gulf. It’s our enjoyment of the beach which made moving from Chicago to Orlando an easy transition for us. Aside from that, I also enjoy fly fishing whenever I can steal some time away for myself. I even learned how to tie my own flies when I lived in Oregon. It’s a great feeling catching a fish with flies you tied yourself.
- If you were not an architect, what would you be doing?
Something in the construction industry. I probably would have stayed in the family business and been a brick mason.
- If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
Tuscany, Italy. I’ve been there 4 times and it is one of the most beautiful places and has an amazing culture.
- What is your favorite part about working at HPA?
The people. I work with high quality people that are experts in what they do and I’m learning something new every day from them.
We hope you have enjoyed getting to know Greg, one of our world-class team members here at HPA! Stay tuned for more #HumphreysHeroes blog posts in the future. In the meantime, engage with us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram for all things HPA-related.
