Housing complex hosts ribbon-cutting ceremony

Wells Fargo and St. Joseph Catholic Housing hosted a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Sept. 7, for the Brandon Heights II Apartments, which feature 30 units of housing at 1209 Keystone Place, according to a press release.

Bishop Paul Swain from the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, Amange Aware from Wells Fargo, Mark Lauseng from South Dakota Housing Development Authority, Tom Costello from Costello Companies, representatives from the City of Brandon representative, the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and St. Joseph Catholic Housing were present.

The units are in one three-story building architecturally called the “E-Urban” plan. This is a patented architectural plan developed by Humphreys and Partners Architects, Dallas, Texas.

The building consists of six one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units and eight three-bedroom units. Three units will be designed to accommodate persons with disabilities: one for the hearing and visually-impaired and two for mobility-impaired persons.

“These apartments are wonderful for families and those with disabilities,” said Bishop Swain. “The setting in Brandon is convenient for access to area businesses, schools, many churches and community services. St. Joseph Catholic Housing is pleased to be a participant and blessed to have such good partners in this project.”

The total development cost of the project is $4.38 million and was financed with Low Income Housing Tax Credits and a HOME loan from South Dakota Housing Development Authority; Wells Fargo provided the construction and permanent financing in addition to purchasing the tax credits.

Costello Property Management will manage the complex. Brandon Heights II opened on May 1 and was 100 percent occupied within four months of opening on Aug. 31.
